Importance of Routine Dental Visits

With so much going on in our everyday lives, as well as the world, overlooking your routine dental visit may seem insignificant right now, but could have larger repercussions in the future. It’s more important now than ever to stay healthy, so let’s explore the importance of these checkups.

Whether it has been recommended that you see a dentist every 3 or 6 months, this is crucial to maintain optimal long-term health. There are several benefits to detecting early dental problems, to include:

  1. Early treatment prevents excessive loss of tooth structure from decay:

Decay only gets bigger the longer you wait to restore it.

  2. Detection of developing oral cancer lesions or abnormalities:

A thorough oral cancer screening is done at each of your exams with Dr. McCoy.

  3. Reduces the number of harmful bacteria in the mouth:

Bacteria can lead to periodontal disease and/or tooth decay.

  4. Decreases financial cost in the future:

The larger the decay gets, the larger the restoration becomes. Prolonging treatment can lead to root canals or crowns, taking treatment from a few hundred dollars for a filling to a few thousand dollars for root canals and crowns. The tooth may become non-restorable and have to be extracted, and replacement options can be very costly. Periodontal disease treatment can also be expensive. Untreated periodontal disease can lead to tooth loss and can affect your overall health.

If you are considering skipping your next routine dental visit, remember finding issues early will cost less, and be less stressful in the long term. We look forward to seeing you at your next appointment.
