First Dental Visit

Sometimes scheduling a first visit at a new dental office can create a lot of anxiety. Understanding what will happen during that appointment can help alleviate many concerns. One of the first things needed will be the completion of new patient paperwork. If this is done prior to the appointment, it helps to make everything run on time, and it is one less thing you have to think about. When you arrive at the office, if you have not already completed the paperwork, this will be the first thing we ask for. From there, let the appointment begin!

Whether you are coming for the first time to see the doctor, hygienist, or both, we will want to thoroughly review your paperwork. This helps us understand your medical and dental history, as both will affect the current condition of your mouth and all future treatment. This is also a time to get to know you personally, as well. Next we will discuss your oral health goals. Some patients are taken back when we ask about their goals because they have never been asked about this or have never discussed it at other dental offices. It is important to know what is most important to each patient so the treatment plan can serve them best. After having a chance to talk with each patient we will begin to collect some data to prepare for the examination. This information includes appropriate radiographs based on age, and dental history, as well as a full periodontal screening, including measuring your gum attachment. After all the information has been gathered, you will have a thorough exam, and the dentist will discuss any findings, while trying to educate and advocate for the best treatment recommendations. The dentist will also let you know the benefits of moving forward with treatment and the risks of delaying treatment.

Our goal is to provide a personalized patient experience, that leaves you excited to be a part of our practice. Finding a new dentist can feel very intimidating but understanding what to expect will help you feel more prepared for your visit.
